About

Miki Kawashima is a Japanese pianist renowned for her diverse repertoire and dedication to both classical and contemporary music. Born in 1995, she began piano studies at the age of three. In 2010, she moved to England to continue her musical education, gaining recognition in 2013 when she won first prize at the Farnham Competitive Music Festival, earning the Young Musician Award and the June Fielding Bursary. By 2015, she was performing with esteemed ensembles, including the London Mozart Players.

For the next two years, she studied Chopin’s works under the guidance of Andrzej Jasiński at the Academia del Ridotto in Italy. In 2018, Miki continued her classical piano studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague under the tutelage of David Kuyken. Her Master’s studies were specialized in contemporary music, during which she honed her skills in ensemble performance and modern repertoire under the mentorship of leading musicians from ensembles such as Ensemble Klang.

After completing her studies, she became a member of The Spaceship Ensemble, a contemporary music group founded in The Hague in 2018. The ensemble combines acoustic instruments with synthesizers and custom electromechanical creations to produce innovative and high-level musical experiences.

She has participated in masterclasses with international artists, including Eliso Virsaladze, Frank Braley, Jacques Rouvier, and Till Fellner.

Recently, Miki has broadened her artistic focus to include Baroque music, studying harpsichord with Fabio Bonizzoni and basso continuo with Patrick Ayrton.

Her work is supported by the Dutch Music Fund, which provides her with a Steinway M piano to further her performances and musical projects.
